5 Stars The standard for excercise headphones
Pros:
- THEY STAY PUT
- Good sound
- Good build quality
Cons:
- Cord is WAY to long
- not comfortable for long periods of time
I run regularly and do high-intensity workouts (CrossFit) and wanted dedicated headphones for these activities. For my purposes these fit the bill perfectly.
For starters, these will not fall out of your ears. Period. These are the only headphones I’ve tried that I can say this about. I’ve tried 4 different types of workout headphones and these are the best at staying put. (I’ve tried the in-ear type, the earbud type, ones with metal hangers that hook around your ear, ones with rubber hangers that wrap around your whole ear…)
Sound and build quality are what you expect from Sennheiser. These feel like a pair of $60+ headphones. Also, the label in the back doubles as a reflector, a nice touch.
The negatives aren’t that big, for instance, the cord on this thing is WAY too long – I have it coiled up under my arm band. Also, if I wear these for a few hours the pressure they create on my ears becomes annoying. However, this is less and less the longer I have them.
As a side note, something to be aware of more than a negative: when you are doing exercises on your back you need to keep your head straight or cocked back. If you put your chin to your chest with your head still on the ground then the band that goes around your neck may push against the floor/bench and they could pop out of your ears. While I’m aware of this, it hasn’t even been an issue for me and I do a decent amount of floor and bench work.
I love these headphones, I look forward to putting them on before my workouts!
5 Stars finally…
A previous reviewer of headphones wrote that it all comes down to finding a pair that fit and work well for the individual. I purchased the Koss Sportsclip and the Sennheiser OMX 70 previously. The Koss stayed in the ear and sounded OK, until one of the speakers died. The OMX sound better, but don’t stay in the ear very well and need lots of amplification for a decent sound level. The PMX, on the other hand, sound great for a sports headphone, with lots of bass and definition at much lower levels of amplification. I have a pair of Grado 325i’s and PMX aren’t put to shame against them. For me, they stay in the ear, and can be worn for hours with no discomfort. For what its worth I have a big head and an 18″ neck, and use the headphones when out hiking and skiing. My search for headphones that work in those situations has ended.
3 Stars Does the job
These headphones have adequate sound quality for use while running. They stay in place well on my head. The comfort level is acceptable, but not great. I am happy with my purchase, but I use these headphones only for running.
4 Stars Great for workouts.
I’ve had these headphones for a year and a half and they have held up pretty well considering the amount of abuse they receive. The only issue I have had is that the sound of one speaker will occasionally cut out if it has been soaked in sweat. This is somewhat understandable as there needs to be a huge amount of sweat to cause the problem and it is easily fixed by shaking the headphones to remove some water. But this is the reason I didn’t give 5/5.
They stay on my head very well when running, although as other reviewers have pointed out they can get in the way on fitness equipment. The included shirt clip is also very useful for keeping the cord out of my way.
The sound is excellent. I was at first surprised at how good the bass response was considering the price. Definitely an improvement over the standard iPod headphones in sound, durability and comfort.
4 Stars Pretty cool headphones which do what they’re supposed to do.
I’ve had the headphones for a little over a month now and I have to say that they’re really starting to grow on me. I had always worn the older style, completely over the ear headphones, until switching to the smaller “inner ear” plug type of headphones a few years back and it took me a long while to get used to the switch. Similarly, it took me a while to get used to these. At first, I found the fit within my ear a bit uncomfortable and didn’t think that they delivered the same punch that the inner headphones delivered. After a month of continuous use, I find these so much more comfortable than the inner ear ones and have gotten completely used to the sound. (Though, I haven’t gone back to compare again to the inner ear type.) I no long have to adjust the ear phones as I’m jogging, or laying back on the bench or even walking around the gym for that matter!
Ultimately, these do what they’re supposed to, which is provide a comfortable set of headphones to use when working out. The headphones seem to be put together pretty good and are sturdy. The fact that they only use one cable allows me to do just wrap it behind me and alleviates the problem I had with other headphones of always getting the cable caught when doing curls, for instance. The sound is good and I found that it I shift the headphones higher up on my head, I can even do exercises on the bench without the band digging into the back of my head. The funky, fluorescent green color is a plus too.
Overall a great purchase for the money. I highly recommend them!
